Today I have a great Guest Post to share with you all by Cindi Lewis... all about how to ensure you get picture perfect make up on your wedding day! { Most useful this time of year too with all those parties to attend ;) }
You only get one chance to take your wedding day pictures, so you have to get it right. Luckily, there are several things you can do both in advance and on the big day to help you look your absolute best. These tips will not make you look great in your wedding day pictures but they will also give you one less thing to worry about.
In Advance
- If you are going to tan, do so well in advance of the ceremony in case it needs to be fixed or fade a little bit. Never tan less than a week before the wedding. If you don't have time, try using a bronzer instead, which will still give your skin a sun-kissed and healthy glow without looking like George Hamilton.
- Do all facials or treatments at least a week before the wedding in case of allergic reaction. Nobody wants their nose to look like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, even if its a Christmas wedding. Stick with products you have used in the past to eliminate the risk of bad reactions, especially if your skin is sensitive.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water each day, 8-10 glasses is ideal. Avoid sugar and alcohol which can make your skin red and cause you to retain water. Avoid salt, which can make you retain water and make you bloat.
- Make sure you get plenty of sleep to avoid puffy eyelids or dark circles under your eyes.
Skin
- Always use moisturizer, even if you have oily skin. This helps your foundation glide on evenly. If you want a sunny glow, use a tinted moisturizer.
- A primer helps makeup adhere to the skin so it doesn't begin to run down your skin. Nobody wants anything (or anyone) to be 'running' on their wedding day!
- Highlighters are great to give you a nice glow but use them sparingly or your pictures could come out with shiny spots that will remind you of high school.
Eyes
- Even if you aren't the weepy type, you might cry at your wedding so go waterproof on the mascara. Fake eyelashes can eliminate the need for mascara altogether, so consider those as well.
- Practice eye makeup in advance and use a primer to make sure your eye shadow doesn't migrate.
- Brow powder will keep your brows looking perfect and should be one shade darker than your natural color.
- Try neutral eye makeup that doesn't overwhelm the white of your gown. You also won't look like a raccoon this way in the pictures.
Cheeks
- Use a light color and brush the apple of your cheeks softly.
- Cheek stains stay on longer than blush but practice in advance; they are as unforgiving as your mother-in-law if you don't do them right.
Lips
- Use a liner that is slightly darker than the lipstick/gloss shade.
- Lip stains stay on longer and need less reapplication.
- Use bright shades to make teeth look whiter. Avoid colors with yellow undertones that can make teeth look yellow.
Following these tips will put your best face forward on your big day and create pictures that won't make your cringe worse than your driver's license photo. The groom's face though is up to you.
