Cute DIY Save the Date Idea

Pin It Now!
I have to say I just love Save the Dates... I suppose because for some its the first real insight into your wedding and the style and direction you might be taking. Of course for me { as a Wedding Planner } this is just the start of the guessing games { especially if I have nothing to do with your Wedding Plans }.

I am just loving this adorable Save the Date idea... that is super cheap, I reckon €2.00 for a box of coloured chalk is all! { of course if you hire a photographer to take you picture its going to be considerable more! :) }

What do you think?

Sun Jars: Another Great Wedding DIY Mason Jar Project!

Pin It Now!

Guest Post from Free People

I know just how much you all love your DIY Mason Jar Wedding Projects so when Meghan got in touch from Free People and asked would I be interested in featuring a Sun Jar DIY project from them I jumped at the chance! Enjoy!

Take it away guys...

The difference between a memorable party and a forgettable one is in the details. Brighten up a plain setting and make your guests remember how welcome they felt. You don’t have to spend a boatload. You can make interesting accents all on your own.

A great project that is taking garden décor by storm is the do-it-yourself Sun Jar, which the Free People store display design team created for our stores.

A sun jar is a frosted glass mason jar with a solar-powered light cell inside. The solar power cell charges up during the day and casts a warm glow at night. Use sun jars to light a path, illuminate a tablescape, or emphasize staircases (especially helpful in the dark!)

Here’s what you need:

A mason jar with a clear glass lid
A solar garden light, the kind you can find at home building stores. Make sure the solar-cell part (without the supporting stake) can fit inside the jar.
Adhesive
Frosting Spray (found in the spray paint aisle or in craft stores)

Here’s what you do:
1.    Clean the inside of the jar and dry thoroughly (manufacturing and shipping can leave dust and debris inside jars).
2.    Spray inside of the jar with the frosting spray. Use short, light bursts, until the inside of the jar is completely covered. The frosting will diffuse the light and give the sun jar a warm glow. DO NOT SPRAY THE LID. Both the inside and the outside of the lid must remain clear so the solar cell can absorb sunlight.

3.    Disassemble the solar cell. This can be a lot easier than it sounds, depending on what kind of lamp you purchase. Certain kinds can simply be unscrewed and the solar/battery pack remains intact, whereas others will require some reassembly with adhesive.
4.    Put a line of glue around the edges solar cell, or the parts you’ve harvested from the garden lamp, to the underside of the jar’s lid.
5.    Allow it to dry completely, and you’re all finished! Close the lid, put your jar in direct sunlight, and it’ll glow all night long!

Make a few in different colors. These are the little things that give people a lot to remember.

DIY Wedding Inspiration

Pin It Now!
Big, big, big, big surprise today everyone! Some time ago I featured a guest post by a gorgeous bride to be, Sarah Beckman, well Sarah is now Sarah Heckle and back again today to sure some of her gorgeous DIY Wedding Projects and some of her amazing wedding photographs! { Big shout out to Sara & Mallary Photography for these great pics! }

Take it away Mrs Heckle ;)

wedding photo

A while back I guest blogged for Wedding High about how to plan for engagement photos, and I am so happy to report back now with some wedding photos that show all the DIY projects I undertook for our wedding.

Going into wedding planning, I had already been scouring wedding blogs looking for inspiration. Decor-wise, I knew I didn't want a traditional wedding. I wanted to do something that reflects my personal taste.

DIY pennant banners

The biggest of these DIY undertakings was definitely making yards and yards of pennant banners. They weren't hard to make, but time intensive, as we sewed each banner. To make these, I used thin white rope, flannel fabric for the pennants (the fabric needs to be heavy and stiff enough to keep its form), thread to match, and ribbon to secure the banners to the chairs. It was just a matter of cutting the fabric into triangles (using a rotary cutter). I doubled up the triangles so each side of the pennant would be the right side of the fabric. We sewed the triangles together -- and sewed a channel at the top to string the rope through. They were a lot of work, but ended up looking darling.

DIY tissue paper poms

We got married in a gorgeous, wooded area, so I knew I didn't need too much decoration on the altar.  I used some whimsical tissue paper poms in grey and yellow to add a little color.

DIY wedding program fans
After spending a pretty penny on our wedding invites, our paper budget was pretty much shot. Luckily, I have a very talented cousin (who was  also a bridesmaid) who made our programs. I decided to go for fan programs in case our outside wedding was hot (the day ended up being cool, but the fans were still a cute novelty).

DIY table decorations

For table decorations, I collected hundreds of vases and doilies from antique stores, thrift shops, and my relatives. Each table had an eclectic mix of vases and doilies to create a very vintage feel. I loved that every table was unique, and I think the guests loved walking around checking out all the centerpieces.

Working on all these DIY projects was really a labor of love for me. I know most brides are relieved when the big day is over, but I miss all the creative time I put into our wedding planning!

Author bio: Sarah Heckle is a newlywed who has a love for DIY. She works at Affordable Style where she writes about everything from how to look fashionable in reading glasses to how to style a circle scarf. She can't wait until next May when she's Maid of Honor in her best friend's wedding!

Friday's Wedding Photo Fix: The Big Gay Wedding Project

Pin It Now!
So today's 'Friday's Wedding Photo Fix' is a little more than just a fantastic wedding shot taken by a talented Photographer. Today's photo has so much meaning, both for me, the couple in it, the photographer who took it and you, yes that's you; my darling reader.

This emotion filled photo was taken by Shawna Scott and this gorgeous couple { who actually make me cry they look so happy, honest to god guys, tears in my eyes here as I type! } are one of 7 couples who Shawna Scott has been photographing { for free } on their wedding day as part of her The Big Gay Wedding Project.

What is The Big Gay Wedding Project I hear you ask?

Well { its amazing! } its Shawna's first solo project as a Photographer and her goal is by providing free photography to civil partnerships and weddings of gay couples across Ireland and Northern Ireland and exhibiting  photos from these ceremonies in the new year in a bid to raise awareness of the Marriage Equality campaign to equalise the civil marriage rights of same-sex couples in the Republic.You can read all about The Big Gay Wedding Project over on Confetti where Shawna recently did an interview or of course on Shawn's dedicated website The Big Gay Wedding Project.

So what am I asking of you? Your support... for Shawna, for same sex couples and for the Marriage Equality Campaign. At the very least, if you can't help with time or money, educate yourself on the differences that exist between the marriage rights I {and you} have and the rights my brother and anyone entering {either now or in the future} into a civil partnership. Share this education with others and realise that we all deserve the same.

You see, cause I have a dream... that one day my gorgeous {little} brother can enjoy everything { and I mean everything } I share with my wonderful husband and of course that I can plan his amazing, over the top wedding and cry the whole way through everything with happiness!

{Ps little brother currently available :) he is super gorgeous, talented, successful, {yumtastic} cook , handsome, super fun, house trained and great for cuddles! ... apply within ;) }

Wedding Venues Yorkshire – What Makes Them So Popular?

Pin It Now!

 Guest Post by Sunniva I. Skoglund

Traditionally, couples planning their wedding day would look for local venues.  However, in recent years there has been a move away from this kind of approach, with couples starting to look further afield for their event venue.  Wedding venues Yorkshire are becoming increasingly popular and are enjoying a real upsurge in the number of bookings they are taking.

So what is it that makes them so attractive to soon to be married couples?

Cost

Figures suggest that the average {UK} wedding costs in the region of £20,000, with some couples spending much more.  The wedding reception accounts for the largest chunk of this; with the venue, food and drinks averaging upwards of £4,000.  Due to the current financial climate many are looking to make savings on their wedding wherever they can and the venue is the first place to start.  As the north of England is cheaper than their local area, southerners are now looking at venues that they wouldn’t previously have considered.

Ease of access

Cost alone isn’t the only factor that is making wedding venues in Yorkshire such a popular choice right now.  Indeed, there are many other areas in northern England that offer just as competitively priced wedding venues.  However, not many are as well located or easily accessed as Yorkshire is.  Modern day trends mean that many people relocate during their lives, therefore your family and friends can be spread all over the UK and perhaps even further afield.  As Yorkshire is quite central in terms of the UK landmass, it makes a good place for guests to travel to no matter where they live.  The West Yorkshire region is perhaps the best choice, with excellent road, rail and air travel links in place.

Surroundings

The third reason that wedding venues Yorkshire are all the rage at the moment is the surroundings in which many of them are set.  The countryside of Yorkshire is some of the most beautiful in the UK and there is good reason for the locals referring to the county as God’s Own Country.  There are vast stretches of unspoiled countryside, best showcased by the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales national parks.  The surrounding areas of many Yorkshire wedding venues provide an ideal backdrop for the perfect wedding day and introduce an aura of tranquillity in the midst of a hectic day.  The scenery can also be of great use when it comes to taking those personal wedding shots and the photographer can whisk you away for half an hour to get photos that you can treasure for the rest of your life.

Kim Kardashian's marriage is finished!

Pin It Now!
Ok, I have to put my hands up... I'm shocked; 72 days and millions spent { and I supposed earned } and its all over??? Perhaps I am totally naive { it has been said before :) } but I really thought this would last... well, at the very least longer than 72 days!

What's shocked me even more are the rumours that the hole thing, relationship, marriage, the whole kit and caboodle, was supposedly all dreamed up by E!? I just wont believe this... I wont. :(

I have to say I was never 'Kardashian Krazy'... well not like some fans, but I did {do} find them all a {tiny} bit addictive... but now... well now I think I've lost a little respect for Kim...

'Irreconcilable Differences', - as filed in the divorce petition by Kim, are supposedly down to Kim wanting to live near her family in LA and Kris wanting to live elsewhere... {surely this was discussed before the wedding???!!}

What's shocked me even more is that Kim's sisters, Khloe, who married Lamar after just a month, have lasted and seem like a totally loved up, happy couple! Even Kourtney who, against her own and her families {repeated} better judgement, is still with her long term { father of her child } boyfriend, and Kim, who dated Kris for eight, {yes eight } months only lasts 72 days in marriage!!! What the hell us up with that... clearly in Kim's world 'til death do you part' actually means ' til your cribs location is not to my liking'...

This being her second marriage... perhaps its third time lucky?

Trees in your wedding decor!

Pin It Now!
When William & Kate had trees at their wedding ceremony back in April I thought to myself, this could be a big trend! I waited... even wondered if some of my own brides would ask or enquire or show an interest... nothing... { yet :) } ...

Then a came across this fabulous picture and I thought to myself again... why isn't this a big trend? Maybe I'm just a little over the top... after all trees in church {or indoor ceremony location} isn't that just a bit much.... {perhaps} but just look at this... especially these would these fabulous autumnal colours!

Wouldn't they make you want trees at your wedding?
