What do you give the Mother's as a gift at your Wedding?

Pin It Now!
I came across this pic on { you guessed it } on Pinterest and it reminded me of what I gave my own  Mother and Mother in Law on our wedding day.

Source: etsy.com via Madison on Pinterest

Now I didn't embroider the message onto the hankie { which I think is just the loveliest touch } but wrote it in a lovely card. For me, personally, I like gifts like this one, that's a keepsake, heartfelt and something you can cherish for a long, long time after the event.

I actually got a similar gift myself from a lovely, lovely bride a couple of years ago. Just as she was about to walk down the aisle, as I fixed her veil, she handed me this little gold box. Inside was a lovely linen hankie and a little poem:

After the wedding, when our loved ones are gone, and the fragrance of flowers had lingered til dawn, When the last piece of cake at the table is cut, the lights have all dimmed and doors have been shut, When everything is quiet, our memories made, and each flower petal is starting to fade,
Its then in that moment, my thoughts will be free, to think of how special you've made this for me. After the wedding, and all the years through, I'll remember the day my dreams had come true.

Thanks for everything...

It's perhaps the most heartfelt, simplilist, most beautiful gift one of my couples has ever given me. It sits on my desk and I see it every day.
So if you are looking for something special to give your Mother or Mother in Law for all their help in the wedding, or support over the years, these are just lovely, thoughtful ideas that you should consider.

The big day has come and gone, and if you’re anything like me, you’re a little bit sad about it. But as you settle into newlywed bliss there’s still plenty to do! In fact, the many things it takes to officially “become one” may be more daunting than some of the wedding planning. But, as a newlywed going through all the motions you will soon go through, I’ve got a way to keep you organized!
I’ve compiled a master list of things that must happen after your wedding, something to bookmark and keep you on track!
1. Write thank you notes for gifts. Etiquette says you should have thank yous in the mail no later than two months after your wedding date.
2. If you’re planning on keeping your wedding dress, have the dress and veil preserved so it remains in good condition. It’s a keepsake you may want to hold onto for a daughter or granddaughter to see. Some brides may be more practical than I, but I could never sell my dress. It’s too special! Even though I didn’t wear my mother’s dress, it was special to unpack it after I was engaged and try it on and see it. Your daughter may appreciate it, and it’s something you can’t ever get back.
3. Send a special thank you to any wedding vendors you especially appreciated. Most vendors also request photos for their personal use, so include those when possible! My florist and cake vendor will be getting a few to use on their sites. Also, your vendors will greatly appreciate any reviews you can give them on popular wedding sites! It’s how they get business and how you can help other brides find great people to work with.
4. Change your name and all important documents:
  1. Get a copy of your marriage license and marriage application (you’ll need both to apply for a new social security card and name change)
  2. If you’re taking your husband’s name, go to the social security office to change your name
  3. Get a new driver’s license
  4. Apply for a new passport (better to do it now than later when you may be dealing with a time crunch!)
  5. Change all important accounts to your new name
  1. Bank Accounts
  2. Health Insurance
  3. Auto Insurance
  4. Life Insurance
  5. Any online accounts (Paypal, Amazon, Ebay, etc.)
  6. Update any stocks, IRAs, mortgages, leases, or money market accounts
  7. Voter Registration
  8. Bills (utility, cable, rent, etc.)
5. Other odds and ends:
  1. Take a video of your new home, including all valuables, to send to your insurance company.
  2. Create a living will
  3. If you and your husband are merging accounts, do so now
Remember: The sooner you get these tasks under your belt, the sooner you can enjoy your new life as husband and wife! Leaving these hanging over your head is sure to cloud your rose-colored glasses.

Other Than Wedding Invitations, What Stationery Do You Need For The Big Day?

Pin It Now!

Guest Post by Sunniva I. Skoglund

When it comes to wedding stationery many couples think about wedding invitations as the main, or even the only, piece of stationery that they will need. But you might need more than you think…evening invitations, thank you cards and place cards are all part of the big wedding stationery package. Here is a list of wedding stationery that you might find useful for your wedding planning.

Evening invites
Maybe you want your wedding ceremony to be small and intimate, or perhaps the location you have chosen to get married in, and where you plan to have your wedding breakfast, has a limited amount of space and can’t fit all of your friends and family. In this case it could be a good idea to divide your guests into “all day” and “evening only” groups. An evening invitation can match the all day invitation but will often be slightly simpler in its design and layout.

An order of service leaflet is usually given out just before the ceremony outlining any music, readings or other events that will take place during the course of the service.

Thanking your guests for sharing your big day with you is common courtesy and there are many different ways in which you can design this card, either with or without photos, perhaps matching your wedding invitations and other stationery you have used for your wedding. It is a good idea to order these at the same time as your other wedding stationery, if possible, as you might be able to personalise the design and bulk buy.

If you are late sending out your wedding invitations or you want to ensure that your guests will reply on time it might be a good idea to include a reply card, or r.s.v.p. card, inside your wedding invitations. If you include a stamp and the address you can rest assured that you have done all you can to make your guests get back to you on time.

Another piece of stationery that is essential to your wedding is place cards. Again, these could match your other stationery and you can make them a unique part of your table decorations.

Many couples don’t understand the idea behind the save the date card, but if you are late trying to find a wedding venue or finalise your arrangements it is a valuable notice to your guests that they should keep the date free to attend your wedding and that further details about venue and itinerary will follow.

Hopefully this would have helped you identify a few more pieces of stationery, in addition to your wedding invitations, that might aid you before, on, and after your wedding day.

Top Tips to cater to Special Dietary Requirements at Weddings.

Pin It Now!

Guest Post by Frankie Burns

In general, people with food allergies or dietary requirement are used to not having many food options at big events like weddings. However, as the host, you want to choose foods that would suit all guests so that nobody feels “left out” of the special meal. While you can’t accommodate everyone’s dietary concerns, a little pre-planning can get everyone through the reception with a happy stomach and health still intact.

Source: frytoncatering.co.uk via Bláithín on Pinterest

When you have a huge list of people that you want to invite to your wedding, there are bound to be people on that list with allergies or restricted diets and there will usually be a vegetarian or two to consider as well. If a large number of your guests are vegetarian, coeliac or have some sort of food allergy or intolerance, it’s in everyone’s best interest to have something available for them. After all, the last thing you want is for your big day to arrive, only to find that half your guests can’t eat the meal you have chosen.

RSVP cards

The best way to avoid a meal fiasco is by asking your guests to specify any dietary requirements when they RSVP. These RSVP cards will provide much needed details about your guests' diets. They will not only provide guests with the various dinner options, such as beef, chicken or fish, but it will also alert you and the caterer about any dietary restrictions, including food allergies or vegetarians. This way, you can better accommodate your guests resulting in a stress free wedding.

Offer variety

Whether you have a list of dietary restrictions or not, it’s ideal to offer a variety of food choices at your wedding. Professional caterers can suggest low-sugar, low-calorie or low-fat alternatives that are within your wedding budget. You would be surprised at how much they look and taste like the high calorie originals.

Little things, Big impact

Little gestures will make a huge impact on your guest, especially since they are all there to celebrate your special day- not theirs. Something as simple as a card on the table listing allergen-friendly courses is significantly helpful to those guests that have restrictions. And even providing gluten-free or vegetarian hors d'oeuvres will make your guests feel special.

No one expects to be individually catered to at a wedding, but if you have the capacity to address individual dietary needs of your guests, your service will be noticed and appreciated. This consideration creates a better atmosphere full of goodwill and celebration. Regardless of what you are able to do for your guest, let them know that you are sincerely concerned about meeting their needs and truly grateful that they want to celebrate your special day with you.

Remember what the wedding is all about.

Pin It Now!
Being a Wedding Planner of course I love everything wedding. I love details, I love décor, I love fabulous dresses and I love all the fun, mayhem and frolics that come with weddings; its all part of the reason why I love my work so much.

But there is one thing I've always said, never aim for the perfect wedding... something will and always goes wrong, it might be tiny or it might be a bit bigger... but at the end of the day....

That is why I say: don't aim for a perfect wedding... aim for a fabulous wedding!

Pre-Wedding Hair Care Tips

Pin It Now!

Source: ratedesi.com via Tonia on Pinterest
There are a variety of steps that can be taken when it comes to obtaining the most beautiful and softest hair achievable for your wedding day. Hot oil treatments that work to penetrate deep into the hair and the hair follicles are one of the most important steps that many women take prior to their big day. There are also many different benefits to using this particular type of treatment. To list a few of the most beneficial advantages of a hot oil treatment are as follows:

  • This is a hair care technique that can quickly turn limp hair that has no body into healthy bouncy hair that appears to be as healthy as can be.

  • There are many things that can strip the hair of its natural oils and cause a tremendous amount of damage. Women with hair that has been damaged from coloring, perms and various other hair treatments immediately notice a healthy and shiny difference in the appearance of their hair when a hot oil treatment is used.

  • Problems with dry hair that tends to break off rather easily can benefit a great deal from hot oil hair care treatments. It helps to restore the natural elasticity and moisture that is lost, leaving behind a lustrous shine and healthy head of hair.

There are also other beneficial pre-wedding hair care options that are available to brides-to-be. One
of the most popular choices that more and more women are choosing is known as keratin hair treatments. This is actually one of the most widely-used methods of hair care that can quickly get a person’s hair in tip top shape before the arrival of their big day. A few of the hair types that this type of technique can be especially helpful for includes the following:

  • Hair that is unmanageable

  • Hair that is extremely curly and hard to manage

  • Hair that has been damaged and is frizzy

Why Keratin Hair Treatments?

One of the biggest benefits that a large number of people enjoy about this technique is it involves the use of keratin, which is a pure and natural protein. This protein actually makes up as much as 88% of a person’s hair. None of the hair’s internal bonding properties are affected with this type of process. This is because the protein used in this treatment mixes quite easily with the keratin that is already found within a person’s hair growth.

This pre-wedding hair care technique provides the hair with an adequate amount of nutrition that is essential to having strong healthy hair. Not only are the amazing results easy to see but they are also easy to feel in the silky smooth texture of the hair.

Important Factors to Keep in Mind When Using Keratin Hair Treatments

Before using this type of technique often used for pre-wedding hair care, be sure that you take the time to carefully read the label included on the product. This way you can make sure there are no harmful or toxic ingredients in the products you are using.

This article was written for Wedding High on behalf of Keraplast, a leading innovator of keratin protein technology, working with partners to create products, such as Hair Rescue, to keep hair healthy, shiny and strong.

5 Tips for Shaping Up for your Wedding

Pin It Now!

Guest Post by Jessica Best

When wedding bells are fast approaching, one of the biggest worries on a brides mind is fitting into ‘that’ perfect wedding dress. With all the stress of wedding preparations, it’s no wonder blushing brides-to-be find it difficult to get the perfect shape up routine in place. Luckily, with a few of these basic tips you will be toning and tightening your way to the wedding of your dreams!

Remove soda and alcohol from your diet

Yes, before we even get started on the exercise tips addressing the issue of calorie containing, nutrient starved beverages is foremost. Preparation for weight loss, and skin purifying starts with the removal of Soda and alcohol from your diet. The sugary drinks offer nothing nutritionally for your body and they can hinder your motivation to work out. Opt for plain water, green tea and fresh vegetable juices which contain great detox and mood enhancing properties. Aim to drink 2L of water a day and extra if you are exercising.

Limit your stress

Planning a wedding is no easy feat, so during times of stress and immense pressure try to remember, this is about the bond between two people in love. Don’t sweat the small stuff! On the big day it won’t bother you if the flowers are one shade off what you originally wanted. Stress leads to skin problems as well as over-eating which, we all know causes weight gain. So focus on remaining calm, relaxed and focused.

Employ the help of a trainer

Whether you are new to exercise, or a seasoned pro, everybody can benefit from hiring a trainer for the pre-wedding shape up. Having a personal trainer will boost motivation and commitment levels, keeping you focused, on time and ultimately seeing results. A trainer will also tailor a workout to your specific needs, toned arms are important for a strapless wedding dresses or maybe you are looking to lose 10lb for that honeymoon bikini. Shop around and find a trainer that you really connect with, ask as many questions as you need and never be shy to tell them what you want. Whatever the goal, a trainer will have you well on your way to looking and feeling great.

Add swimming to your workout routine

If you have time to add some extra exercise into your workout schedule, don’t go past swimming. Not only is swimming fantastic for toning arms and legs, it’s also a great form of stress relief. Water offers peace and tranquility use this opportunity to think and have space away from the world.

Plan your workout schedule and menu

Keeping on track is difficult, especially when you’re busy making wedding preparations. By organizing your time efficiently you know where you’re supposed to be and there will always be enough time to get your workout completed. Planning also lets you monitor your progress, seeing this success will keep you motivated. By planning your food you won’t be tempted to grab takeaways or skip meals.

Enjoy your wedding!

As the date grows nearer, and the excitement mounds make sure you take the time to smile, nothing is more attractive than a genuinely happy bride, so remember this for the big day. Most importantly enjoy your wedding and the celebration of all your hard work, congratulations!
