21 Items you should have in your Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Pin It Now!
They say if you fail to plan you plan to fail.

As a Wedding Planner you can guess I like plans, lists, and knowing what's what. 'People' say I have OCD when it comes to certain things... I tell them I am just extremely good at what I do!

Of course none of us likes when things go wrong, but unfortunately they do... here are 21 Items you should have in your Wedding Day Emergency Kit .... just in case ;)

I'll also ad flats... flat shoes/ flip flops or slippers - essential for the bride! {of course there are others... but that will do for now!}

Wedding Dress Love....

Pin It Now!
I make no bones about the fact that one of my most favourite things to do as a Wedding Planner is take my brides shopping for wedding dresses.... I just LOVE it.

I love seeing my gals transform into 'brides' when they find their dress. I love seeing all the new styles, feeling the fabrics, listening to them move... really I just love it all. And despite being a bride once myself, I still don't know how we all choose just one dress to wear on the day! { I do remember the feeling though... the knowing that it was the one... }

Still the choice is so vast and amazing I really think we should all wear at least 6 on the day. {Ok, yes... ill agree not totally practical, or possibly affordable.... but still.... when you have gorgeous little numbers like this cutie, wouldn't you want to wear more than just one? }

Easy Peasy DIY Place Name Holder

Pin It Now!
Even though I am an advocate of using Professionals in a wedding, I must say I still do love a bit of DIY. I think a balance between both is essential, both in weddings and in life.

{We're only in the midst of laying a patio here ourselves at Wedding High HQ!}

What I love most about DIY is {are} simple, easy and gorgeous projects that are quick and look amazing. Take for interest this wedding DIY Project below, all you need:

  • 2 twigs
  • a little greenery
  •  a glue gun
  • {business card sized} card
  • a nice pen
  • {possible some shearers}

and you are done! How great is that?

Are you having a wedding sound track?

Pin It Now!
Stuck on what to give your guests as favours?

Chocolates are passée.

Keyrings are over done.

Lottery tickets are not your thing.

What about your own wedding sound track? I bet you've already given a list of 'must play' songs to your band or DJ... well why not make the ultimate in mix tapes and give it to all your guests as their wedding favour?!

Budget Perfect Centerpieces

I love simple, effective and pretty things. Make it budget friendly and I love it even more. This idea is all that and more. I've often used it at dinner parties in the house and its creates a lovely vocal point and atmosphere.

If you are looking for a cost effect way to dress up your reception tables, and don't want to go with the venues bog standard ones, this is the idea for you.

{Perfect for trestle or rectangular tables!}

2 Super Cool Table Numbering Ideas

Pin It Now!
Most, if not all, wedding venues use table numbers. Whether they are visible or not is one thing. Many more wedding venues ask you to assign guests to a table... it makes seating them easier as everyone is not clambering to 'sit together'. So chances are you will either have numbers or names on your tables.

Sometimes guests can be a little 'offended' if they are sat at table 24 and believe them to be {at least} top 5 table worthy. For this reason, it is often a good and nice way to use table names, or quirks on table numbering to make it all a little more special { and less offensive}.

Here are two great ideas to inspire you.

Are you into your wine? Way not call your tables after your favourite wines... even incorporate the bottles into our décor!

Not into renaming tables, think numbers are just fine but want to do something a little different with them? Way not 'use' your table numbers to tell your story....

Great Guest Book Idea: 'Leaf a Note'

Pin It Now!
Over the past couple of weeks I've featured a number of interesting, unusual and unique guest book ideas on the blog... this one is all those and more.

More so than the others, this guest book has more... commitment involved with it, {oh the irony ;) } ... it potentially has 'lasting' guest book status and could become a permanent feature in your home.

To call it a guest book is perhaps a little limiting, it is, after all a tree... if I had one of these I would put it in a conservatory { after the wedding } and when 'guests' visit my house I would ask them to 'leaf' more notes {sign and dating too}.

I have a 'house' guest book that I get everyone to sign and leave a message when they visit, especially those people who I don't see often or perhaps will only ever visit my house once in a lifetime.

This 'Tree Guest Book' would be ideal for that...

I would suggest maybe making it on a piece of plywood - or something transportable, particularly for the wedding but also incase you move house during your lifetime. And I would also consider having the 'leaves' made from something durable {but replicable, so you can easily get more} so they last the test of time.

Harry Potter Wedding Inspiration

Pin It Now!
{Standing up, she says;} I am Bláithín and I am a Harry Potter nut!

There I said it, it wasn't too bad. It's out in the open, some of you will applaud, others are possibly shaking their heads. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact, that I, LOVE Harry Potter.

Tonight, fingers crossed, I will be going to see the latest, and last, movie {sob, sob}. Am a little sad, but I've had over 10 years to prepare for this night.

In the movie's {finale} honour I've decided to do a little Harry Potter Wedding Inspiration on the blog today.

I had to do a close up of the Sorting Hat and Wand Escort Cards.... how insanely cool and clever is that?

I can't even handle this Hogwarts Wedding Cake! Wozzers!

A Prefect Pre-Wedding Picture

Pin It Now!
We all know that it is bad look for the bride and groom to see each other before the wedding. I am a bit of a superstitious gal and while I know some of you might be planning on having some pictures taken before your ceremony, to save on time and get the best light, its not something I would personally be able to do. But this... well this I could {and wish I had}.

This is just an absolutely beautiful moment to capture before you say I do... { an absolute must for your wedding photo list! }

Today is my Four Year Wedding Anniversary

Pin It Now!
Its hard to believe I am married four years today!

In some ways 2007 seems like an absolutely life time ago and in others it was only yesterday.

Would you like some of the deets of my wedding?

Well we got engaged on the 29th of July 2005, my mother's birthday, after dating for 9 months. I went through 3 engagement rings { a post for another day } before walking down the aisle.

My hubby, James, choose our wedding day; 07/07/07 - it was the only thing he wanted and allowed me {well my mother} carte blanch everywhere else!

Our Bridal Party consisted of ourselves, 3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen, 8 flower girls and 4 page boys {some of whom couldn't walk!}. It rained, heavily, for the 6 weeks before our wedding but on the morning the sun shone brightly in a fluffy clouded sky! { Although it did pour while the ceremony was talking place!}

My mother, my wedding planner, made, my wedding dress, veil, 3 bridesmaid dresses, 8 flower girl dress, 4 page boy outfits, my Fairytale Castle Wedding Cake and many of the floral arrangements.

My wedding dress, hand made by my mother, took 12 weeks to make and was made from Duoppioni Silk and Spanish Lace. My veil, also made by my mother, was 15 feet long and took a team of 4 hairdressers, 25 minutes to blow dry straight once placed on my head!

We were married in my family's home church by 3 Priests and our ceremony was witnessed by 195 guests who had travelled from all over Ireland, the UK, France, the US, Germany, Australia and New Zealand to attend. I travelled to the church in a horse drawn carriage and all my neighbours lined the street as I left home for the last time as a single gal.

Our reception was held in a charming Country House where our guests enjoyed chocolate fountains, cocktails and entertainment which included classical pianists, Irish dancers, German wedding games and one of Ireland's best DJs.

In place of favours we donated money to both Breast and Prostate Cancer on behalf of our guests and each received a pin or bracelet as an acknowledgement. With 19 children at our wedding we had children's games galore, 2 dedicated child minders and a special kiddies area and tables so that parents could sit back, relax and enjoy themselves.

Our first dance was to 'I want to grow old with you' and my daddy daughter dance was to 'Butterfly Kisses'

Aw the memories...

Monaco's Royal Wedding

Pin It Now!
I have to say I did not follow this Royal Wedding with as much gusto as William and Kate's... I suppose in some ways it seems less romantic, less fairytale.

While there is only about 4 years between the two brides, the {new} Princess Charlene being the senior at 33, her groom {Prince Albert} is 53, {20 years her senior again} and that just seems slightly... well you know... less like Prince Charming and Cinderella.

Add to that the numerous rumours that the {now} Princess Charlene tried to 'flee' the wedding on THREE separate occasions in the weeks leading up to it, she even {reportedly} had her passport confiscated and the most recent rumour that Prince Albert has fathered a number of children, the most recent, believed to be an 18 month by an Italian woman and well it all seems less hopeful and {well} less Wills & Kate.

While I wish them well, especially Charlene, because really she did not look happy, not at all on the day, I don't think I will be surprised, if after the obligatory Heir is produced, we might begin to see cracks form in this marriage.

But on to happier things, as I know you are all much more interested in details and pictures of wedding dresses and fashion!

Following the French tradition, Monaco's weddings take place in two parts. The first is the civil ceremony which takes places on a smaller, more intimate scale, a day or two in advance of the religious ceremony.

To this Charlene wore Chanel ankle length palzzo pants with lace trim and a blue blazer, apparently designed by her. I think the colour was a bold choice, blue, considering her state of mind! I also think the pants were just a tad too long, and while I appreciate that there are probably protocols when it comes to what a {future} Princess should wear to her civil ceremony, I think the whole look was unimaginative, unflattering and not 'bridal' in the slightest. In fact it was more mother of the bride than bride!

What do you think?

To her wedding ceremony, the {now} Princess Charlene wore and off the shoulder Armani Prive Gown. The Wedding Dress reportedly took 2,500 hours to makes and consists of 140 yards of silk, 40,000 Swarovski Crystals and 20,00 Mother of Pearl Beads and it appears the 6 yard long train caused a little bit of bother getting stuck occasionally throughout the day.

The couples religious ceremony took place in the open air courtyard of the Palace in front of 800 invited guests and 3,500 subjects.

{ Our own President, Mary McAleese, was even in attendance!}

To her reception Princess Charlene wore a sleeveless white Armani gown with tiered ruffles { in which she looked stunning!}
